Our Story

Origins

Origins

Atlantic Wellness began with a simple but powerful idea: that youth in our region deserve timely, accessible mental health care.

Founded by two dedicated therapists in Moncton, NB, the organization was born out of a clear and growing need — they saw firsthand how many young people were struggling, and how few supports were available to meet that need. One of those original founders, Danielle Whalen, still leads our team today as Director of Clinical Services, continuing the mission that started it all.

Inspired by the McKee Report

The spark for Atlantic Wellness was partly inspired by the McKee Report, a landmark document led by former judge Mike McKee that examined the mental health system in New Brunswick. While the report focused on improving services within mental health courts, its urgent call for better, earlier intervention across the province resonated deeply. In response, Atlantic Wellness opened its doors in a small, welcoming house on Coverdale Road in Riverview - and from those humble beginnings, we've grown into a community-driven organization supporting hundreds of youth across southeastern New Brunswick every year.

Grassroots Beginnings

Atlantic Wellness first came to life in a small house on Coverdale Road in Riverview, a modest space that matched our grassroots beginnings. It wasn’t fancy, but it was warm, personal, and safe — a place where youth could open up without judgment. As the demand for services quickly grew, so did the need for more space.

A Space for Healing

Today, we’re proud to be in a purpose-built professional office space, designed from the ground up with youth comfort and mental wellness in mind. Every detail - from soft lighting and calming colours to the layout of therapy rooms and shared spaces - was chosen to create an environment that feels both professional and non-clinical. We wanted it to be a place where clients could feel respected, at ease, and truly cared for.
