Clinical Pathways Program

Building the mental health workforce - while expanding free care for youth and young adults

The Clinical Pathways Program is Atlantic Wellness’s innovative approach to clinical training and workforce development. Designed to meet urgent community needs while preparing the next generation of mental health professionals, this program is a core part of how we deliver free, professional therapy to youth and young adults across our region.

With the generous support of Medavie, a major partner in this work, the Clinical Pathways Program strengthens both today’s services and tomorrow’s workforce.

A Legacy of Learning - Powered by Partnership

Atlantic Wellness has supported graduate-level clinical training since 2014. Over the past 11 years, more than 60 interns have completed supervised clinical placements with our team, contributing directly to youth mental health care while building professional skills that last a lifetime.

What began as a practicum opportunity has evolved into the Clinical Pathways Program - a structured and supervised clinical training model made significantly stronger through Medavie’s investment in workforce development and community care.

A One-of-a-Kind Model for Workforce Development

The Clinical Pathways Program brings graduate-level counselling students from Yorkville University and the University of New Brunswick into a real-world, community-based clinical setting - where learning and impact happen at the same time.

Through supervised clinical placements, emerging clinicians gain hands-on experience while directly expanding access to care. Today, the program contributes to therapy hours delivered by Atlantic Wellness, making it a critical pillar of how we provide free, professional mental health services to youth and young adults.

This model strengthens the mental health workforce while ensuring more young people can access care without cost or delay.

From Training to Leadership

Graduates of the Clinical Pathways Program go on to make a lasting impact across the region. Alumni have become:

  • guidance counsellors and leaders within school districts
  • clinicians serving high-needs and northern Indigenous communities
  • founders of counselling practices across the Maritimes

Closer to home, the program has also strengthened Atlantic Wellness itself. Five members of our permanent staff team - including two managers - began their careers here as interns, reflecting the program’s role in retaining skilled clinicians within our community.

Recognized Excellence in Clinical Training

Atlantic Wellness is proud to be a Yorkville University–approved practicum site, with three Yorkville-approved practicum supervisors on staff. This designation reflects the quality, integrity, and consistency of the Clinical Pathways Program, and our ongoing commitment to high standards of clinical supervision and professional development.

Making Free Care Possible — Together

The Clinical Pathways Program represents an innovative, sustainable approach to mental health care — one that supports emerging professionals, strengthens the workforce, and ensures more youth and young adults can access therapy at no cost.

With the generous partnership and support of Medavie, Atlantic Wellness is building a model that works for individuals, for communities, and for the future of mental health care.

I began my journey with Atlantic Wellness in 2025 as an intern, where I had the opportunity to work with youth and young adults and realize the importance of accessible services for this demographic. During this time, I gained hands-on experience, developed strong therapeutic relationships, and learned from an incredibly supportive team. I am thrilled to be continuing with Atlantic Wellness as a full-time counselling therapist, where I can keep growing my skills and contribute to a mission that I am deeply passionate about.

Jason Jones

My name is Jason Jones, and I am known as the intern student that wouldn't go away. I loved the primary purpose of Atlantic Wellness so much (free unlimited counselling for youth and young adults) that I just wouldn't leave. I completed double the amount of volunteer hours required until they found the money to hire me. We have always had an amazing team that are single-minded in our purpose of helping youth and young adults. I would never work for another organization. I found my home for purpose and passion.

I first joined Atlantic Wellness as a practicum student in 2019 and had an incredibly positive experience. The strong sense of teamwork, excellent support, and the opportunity to work with a demographic I’m passionate about truly stood out to me. After gaining experience as a crisis counsellor during the pandemic, I was contacted by Atlantic Wellness in early 2022 about a full-time therapist position. Given the lasting impact of my internship, I was eager to return. Since then, I’ve continued to grow professionally and now serve as the Clinical Intake Manager at Atlantic Wellness. I’m truly grateful to have begun my professional journey here!

I joined this team because I wanted to work in a supportive, collaborative atmosphere with other clinicians who care deeply about counselling and mental health. I like learning from others, and being exposed to new ideas and perspectives helps me to grow as a psychotherapist. The approach at Atlantic Wellness focuses on the healing potential of relationships and this aligns with my personal and professional values. Building trust allows counselling to be a place where clients can engage in self-discovery and self-expression. The quality of relationships in a teen's life can make all the difference and it is an honor to work to build a therapeutic environment where youth have opportunities to create meaning out of what are often very challenging circumstances.

I joined Atlantic Wellness as a practicum student in 2025. I was so nervous to start, but from the moment I walked in the door on my first day, I felt welcome. The team at Atlantic Wellness supported me throughout the last stages of my Master’s degree, always offering guidance and answering my questions. Combine a stellar team with a mission that I am passionate about, it was hard to imagine myself leaving Atlantic Wellness. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to join the team permanently as a staff therapist. I can’t wait to continue growing and learning alongside my colleagues.

I joined this team because as someone who struggles with mental health, I know how important the right support is critical for growth and acceptance of oneself. I believe in supporting youth because as a young adult myself, navigating through life's challenges while still learning and growing is quite overwhelming. Outside of work, I enjoy listening to music, making art projects, and thrifting. I also am obsessed with collecting anything miniature. One of my goals right now is to continue my masters degree in orientation and counseling to be able to become a therapist within the next 2 years.

We are proud to support the next generation of helping professionals through our Internship and Practicum Program. Located in Moncton, New Brunswick, our organization offers placements for graduate students enrolled in Master of Counselling Psychology, Master of Education in Counselling, and Master of Social Work programs.

We are an approved practicum site with Yorkville University and provide supervision and training through two approved Supervisors. Our Learning and Training Manager, with the support of our Clinical Intake Manager, oversees the Internship Program to ensure a structured, educational, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Although we provide virtual counselling sessions for clients, practicum students are required to be onsite for their placement hours. As a youth-focused organization, our busiest times are in the late afternoons and early evenings, and we ask students to be available at least one day per week until 8 p.m. and another day until 6 p.m.

If you are interested in learning more or would like to schedule an initial meet-and-greet, please complete our Student Practicum Inquiry Form using the link below.
